Vineyards

Diverse vineyard blocks play a distinctive role in the wines crafted by McPrice "Mac" Myers and his team. Every plot of land is different, and each vineyard is planted and farmed according to its individual characteristics. Careful fruit selection and intentional blending help the team harness the best of Paso Robles-area terroir.

Sustainability also shapes McPrice Myers releases. The team's farming philosophy has roots in organic, biodynamic, and regenerative farming practices. From an emphasis on efficiency to active efforts to protect natural resources, the goal is to leave the land better than it started – while producing wines with style, depth and grace.

THE ESTATE VINEYARD

Winemaker McPrice "Mac" Myers believes that site determines the depth and sophistication of wine. That's why the winery's Estate Vineyard occupies prime hillside blocks in Paso Robles’ Adelaida District. An extra-long growing season shapes grapes grown in this corridor, which is set between 1,500 and 2,000 feet of elevation. Because slope inclines range from 25 to 50 degrees, the vineyard team cultivates the organically farmed blocks by hand. The steep hills benefit from multiple angles of daytime sun exposure. Cool night breezes blow in off the Pacific Ocean.

Well-drained soils here include a combination of the Santa Lucia-Lopez and Linne-Calodo series, plus Rincon and Nacimiento silty clay loam. More than 25 acres were planted in 2007 and 2008. Featured grape varieties include Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Viognier, and Grenache Blanc.

PAPER STREET VINEYARD

Paper Street Vineyard takes its name from the term describing a street that appears on maps but doesn’t actually exist. Three generations of Paso's Dusi wine family prepped the land and planted grapes on this rocky acreage in the Willow Creek AVA. Located at an elevation of 2,200 feet, the rugged parcel stretches across steep hillsides. The growing conditions, combined with limestone deposits in the soil, make Paper Street an excellent source of Rhône-style grapes such as Clairette Blanche, Mourvèdre, Grenache, Syrah, and Petite Sirah.

LARNER VINEYARD

Stevan and Christine Larner founded Larner Vineyard in 1999. Located in the heart of Santa Barbara’s renowned Ballard Canyon, this land sits between 500 and 680 feet in elevation. The 134-acre ranch is distinguished by chalk bedrock topped with shallow, sandy soils and conglomerate hardpan. Rhône Valley varieties thrive in this setting, with about 35 Larner Vineyard acres planted to Syrah, Grenache, Mourvèdre, and Viognier. Teams here farm using organic practices.
